Mazatlecan mezzo-soprano Sarah Holcombe, stellar artist

With a professional and successful cast on the national stage, the Evening of the Arts will become the exclusive night of Carnaval dedicated to culture and the arts, on Saturday, February 11th at the Teatro Angela Peralta at 8:00 p.m.

“Amor Pagano” [pagan love] is the title of the program that fuses opera, Andalusian folklore, classical music and ballet in the interpretation of El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla and
Georges Bizet’s Carmen Suite, adapted by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin for string orchestra and 47 percussion instruments; it will be a daring and magical show with a stellar performance by mezzo-soprano Sarah Holcombe.

The talented artist from Mazatlan will go out to conquer the public, accompanied by the Camerata Mazatlán under the baton of the acclaimed conductor, Enrique Patrón de Rueda; soloists from the National Ballet Company and the Mazatlán Ballet Company with the artistic rigor of guest choreographer Zoila Fernández Fernández and the Brújula Flamenco Dinámico company, co-directed by Nashieli Buelna and María José Valdés.

It will be a night of high importance for the cultural life of the country, since the Mazatlán Prize for Literature 2023 will be awarded; For this special occasion, maestra Zoila Fernández will put on a show with pieces from the “Carmen” suite, similar to the one she performed a few years ago in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

The Carmen Suite has always motivated me because “Carmen” is not the story of the femme fatale, but of the flirtatious and seductive woman who was rejected by the society that surrounded her because of her behavior, says Zoila Fernández.

The music of “Carmen” is dramatic, expressive, it recreates passages that are truly moving, and I will try to show the public how valuable Bizet’s interpretation and musical composition are, said the prestigious teacher, choreographer, and essayist.

To this shower of stars is added the participation of soloists from the National Dance Company, as well as the Compañía Brújula Flamenco Dinámico, under the co-direction of Nashieli Buelna and María José Valdés.

Maestra Zoila Fernández is excited because she has an opportunity to work with Maestro Enrique Patrón de Rueda, something that is a great privilege, and she deeply thanks Mr. Raúl Rico, Director of the Instituto de Cultura for allowing and giving her the opportunity to work with the Ballet Company as guest choreographer.

Ticket prices: $700.00, in Orchestra; $650.00, 1st Balcony; $600.00 2nd Balcony; and $500.00, 3rd Balcony, available at the Ángela Peralta Theater box office and in the modules installed in Gran Plaza, Plazuela República and Instituto de Cultura.
