Through a show that paid tribute to its main protagonists from Mozart to Cervantes, the young Asian beauty Siu Ling Cotero Chío received the royal attributes that make her Queen of the LXXXIX Juegos Florales del Carnaval Internacional Mazatlán 2024.
The coronation took place at the Teodoro Mariscal baseball stadium, where Poet Laureate Claudia Domingo Hernández arrived to crown Siu Ling I, who upon receiving the crown as a symbol of her new royal responsibilities, proceeded to reward the author of “El Reino de Kaan”, winner of the Clemencia Isaura Poetry Prize 2024.
Siu Ling I wore a beautiful dress designed by Edgar Mohe and made by Sodelva Ríos; The royal clothing was inspired by painters such as Pedro Pablo Rubens, Diego Velázquez and the painter Artemisia Gentileschi. In the Queen’s dress, the designer captures innovation, but without changing tradition, the vibrant color taking as a key factor the fulfilled dream of being queen, for Edgar Mohe her creation inspired poetry.
The royal princesses, Georgina Vázquez, Samantha Espinoza, Aspasia Cárdenas and Rubí Mondragón combined and highlighted her beauty with poise and elegance and at all times were happy and attentive to the development of the show in honor of the Queen of the Floral Games.
The coronation ritual of the new sovereign of the Carnaval Mazatlán Carnival Floral Games concluded with the roar of fireworks that illuminated the sky to the amazement of the families gathered to witness the enthronement of their queen.
Dancing for Siu Ling I
With a purely instrumental preamble, in ternary time and moderate movement, which is interspersed between the beats of a sonata, quartet or symphony, the Ballet Company of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán traditionally danced the music of the French region of Poitou, defined melodically as baroque.
Maestra Zoila Fernández Fernández, responsible for the artistic direction, took a step through history through beautiful choreographies.
Elegant, majestic, salty and providing a broad vision of baroque customs are the choreographies “Spring and the Arrival of the Moon”, “Don Quixote”, who with his witticisms brightened the stage (performed by Gabriel Enrique Moreno Jiménez), “La Corte” and “The Arrival of the Eclipse” under the artistic direction of maestra Zoila Fernández, were enjoyed by the spectators.
More than 100 dancers from the Classical Ballet Company of the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán, Danza Téllez, the Municipal School of Classical Ballet of the CMA, the Folkloric Ballet of the Instituto de Cultur, the Mazahuatl Folkloric Ballet of Cbtis 51, Olimpo Dance and those from Villa Unión were ready to Dance.
The choreographies had as a background the music of great composers such as Vivaldi, who composed The Four Seasons, and “La Primavera” was one of the songs presented on stage.
The dances of the deer, stars, doves and grasshoppers were performed by the Ballet Company of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura de Mazatlán and it should be noted that the period wigs used were made by some mothers of the Ballet School students.
The tributes
The honored queens looked resplendent; The first to appear before the public was María Celia Chío Cortez, who received applause and recognition from the public for her five decades of reign. Excited, the golden queen did a catwalk and greeted the public to later receive an award for her 50th anniversary as Queen of the Floral Games of Carnaval Mazatlán.
The queens’ night continued with the recognition of Tania Álvarez Mexía, Queen of the Floral Games of Carnaval Mazatlán in 1999, who was happy and excited at her reunion with the Carnaval public.
Both honored queens reflected a smile of joy on their faces as they were seen in a tremendously good light after 50 and 25 years of having received the crown of the greatest festival of the Mazatlecans.
In the musical part, the Camerata Mazatlán opened with the sound of its splendid strings to perform “Non ti scordar de me” where the direction of Mtro. Natanael Espinoza Rincón was present with the melancholic song, followed by the popular “Funiculi Funicula” in the voice of tenor Fernando de la Mora, a stellar artist who was very well received by the audience.
The famous performer shared the stage with Mexican singer-songwriter Ely Guerra, winner of the Latin Grammy, who began her performance with an invitation to walk along the “Vereda tropical” [tropical sidewalk] performed with her characteristic sensual tone of voice.
Denise Gutiérrez, singer of Hello Seahorse joined hers virtuosity to that of Ely Guerra in the song “Solamente una vez” and captivated the audience with his particular interpretation of the popular “Cucurrucucú paloma”, among other songs.
The artists sang non-stop while the audience formed a huge choir with the accompaniment of the Camerata Mazatlán, the most recognized of the night for the singers who did not stop asking again and again for “a huge applause for the orchestra and for the mariachi (Traditional Mexican Ensemble)”.
The “México en Grande” concert was joyful from start to finish for the audience who at the end of the show did not want to leave even though they had enjoyed a long list of songs that identify Mexico to the world such as: “Cuando vuelva a tu lado”, “Mucho Corazón”, “Hay que saber perder”, “Como Fue “, Quien será” “Quizás, quizás, quizás”, “Como yo te amé”, “Vereda tropical”, “Solamente una vez”, and “Amor eterno” , among others.
The great musical evening concluded after two hours, a time that was extended because before the cry of “otra….otra!”, the guests of the night performed “Júrame”, “Granada”, “México Lindo” and “Viva México”.
