Uma I, Queen of the Floral Games of Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán 2023 summoned all the poets of the Mexican Republic to participate in the LXXXIX edition of the Clemencia Isaura Poetry Prize.
The poet or poetess who wins this literary contest will receive Natural Flowers and a prize of 80 thousand pesos on Friday, February 9th, 2024 during the celebration of the LXXXIX Floral Games, in addition, the winner will give a partial reading of the winning work.
“If there is something that distinguishes our Carnaval from the rest of the country, it is that it is made up of the cultural part and that artistic side. The Floral Games are no exception, the Instituto de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán is in charge of summoning all the poets residing in the Mexican Republic to compete for the Clemencia Isaura Poetry Prize 2024, from this moment and until the December 29th,” said Uma Ramírez, at the press conference held at the Museum of Music.
The invitation is for poets residing in Mexico, the winner will be announced on January 18th, 2024, the award ceremony will be on February 9th during the coronation of the Queen of the Floral Games, she added.
The official bases are the following:
1. All residents of the Mexican Republic may participate
2. The contestants must send a composition in verse, unpublished with subject, form and free extension, to Post Office Box No. 336 of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. If the shipment is by parcel or courier, it must be addressed to the Organizing Committee of the Floral Games at Avenida Miguel Alemán Number 203, Colonia Centro, ZIP code 8200. Mazatlán, Sinaloa México.
3. The work will be presented in four copies written on a computer and on one side only.
4. The poetic work must be signed with a pseudonym or theme in a sealed envelope, perfectly sealed. In the event that the pseudonym insinuates the identity of the author, it will be disqualified.
5. In a separate envelope, the author must record their general information, as well as his pseudonym and motto on the outside of the envelope, containing the following information: email, home and cell phone to notify the final result, in case of winning. The winning identity pick will be openly, before a Notary Public.
6. The contest will remain open from the publication of this call until December 29th, 2023.
7. The names of the members of the Qualifying Jury will be announced along with the name of the Poet Laureate at the appropriate time.
8. The members of the honorable jury will issue their ruling on January 18th, 2024, and their decision will be final.
9. The Instituto de Cultura will have the right to publish the Laureate Poem, as well as use it for the publication of anthologies or promotional use of the Award.
10. Participation in this call implies acceptance of all its bases and commitments.
11. Any case not considered in this call will be resolved at the discretion of the organizers.
