To compete for the LXXXIX “Clemencia Isaura” Poetry Prize

The Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlán has received collections of poems from 13 states of the Mexican Republic, in response to the call to participate in the LXXXIX edition of the “Clemencia Isaura” Poetry Prize that will reward the winner with a purse of 80 thousand pesos.

So far, poets from Jalisco, Nuevo León, Mexico City, Sinaloa, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán, Coahuila, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, Sonora, Zacatecas and Baja California have confirmed their participation. The decision to determine the winning collection of poems will be announced on January 18th.

To date, the organizing committee has received 25 pieces and the deadline to send poems expires on December 29th at 6:00 p.m. The packages with the proposals must be addressed to the Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlán, located at Avenida Miguel Alemán #203 Colonia Centro, Postal Code 82000.

Esteban Peraza Ramos, who coordinates the sending of calls and the reception of the pieces, indicated that this contest is an event of national tradition, which is why works from all states are accepted from all Mexicans, as well as from the foreign community who has resided in the country for at least three years.

“So far there are a good number of poets who have sent their work to Cultura, and it is good that this continues until the closing, let’s hope more arrive. When the deadline arrives, the pieces are sent to the juries and they issue the winner’s decision. In 2024, the prize will be 80 thousand pesos,” he exclaimed.

In the last edition of the “Clemencia Isaura” Poetry Prize, the winning poet was Sandra Lorenzano with the work “Abismos, quise decir”, while in 2022, the winner was the Monterrey Margarito Cuellar Zárate with his collection of poems “Un pálido reflejo en la ecuación del agua”.
