Team recognized in the creation of Ninots, contributes its art and aesthetic experience to Carnaval Mazatlán 2024
José Ángel Trujillo López and Juan José Boronat have returned to this city with the mission of surpassing what was done during Carnaval Internacional Mazatlán 2023.
Both are part of the Ninots [monigotes] team recognized in Spain for the creation of Ninots (dolls) for the Fallas (festivals) of Valencia; They debuted their artistic work during last year’s Mazatlán Carnaval; The public praised their contributions and in this new edition of the great Port festival, they return with greater vigor and desire to please locals and tourists with their aesthetic vision and creativity.
Known as “the Spaniards”, since their foray into the creative part of the Carnaval Mazatlán they respond:
“It is definitely a pride that people are identifying you, the truth is that the name is a bit secondary when people begin to locate you, in this case if they are identifying us with the name “Los Españoles” well… So be it! But to clarify, I am a red bone Mazatlecan!!”, highlights José Ángel.

Excited, happy for the opportunity to participate in the creation of the floats that fill the port’s biggest festival with magic, color and brilliance, both claim to be ready to surprise the public with their work in the construction of floats and monigotes.
“This year we had the great fortune that (the Instituto de Cultura de Mazatlán) trusted us to grant us the creation of two monigotes and two floats, we hope that people like them, they are being made with great care, which I believe That is the main thing, showing affection is the main ingredient and things are flowing, says José Ángel Trujillo.
He adds that the Ninots (monigotes) are based on the theme of Carnival Mazatlán 2024 “Baroque Eclipse” and as creators they have the hope that people will already see them on the Malecón.
“There are going to be suns and moons…we leave it there…We hope they are benevolent,” says Boronat.
In Spain, these types of statues called Ninots are condemned to the bonfire during the Fallas (festivals) of Valencia, but in Mazatlán their fate could be different.
“In my land the final result is that they are burned, lit in a bonfire and destroyed because they represent a bit of the cycle of life, the beginning and the end, and here they are not, they are kept or destroyed or left in a heap, I don’t know,” explains Juan José Boronat.
José Ángel expresses: “I believe that we have the mentality that these figures are made for the enjoyment of people and once they have fulfilled their purpose during those festivals (in Valencia) all the pieces we make are burned as a purification ritual. , and here I think it would be an excellent idea if all of that could be taken up a little bit because it would be pleasing to the entire public to see pieces of such magnitude burn, it would be nice and attractive for people.”
Furthermore, it would be a tourist attraction because many people would come to see it, as happens in Spain, it would be another party.
This team will also contribute its aesthetics and artistic talent to the Carnaval parade by building two floats that will have a height of 11 meters and although the day of the parades has not yet arrived, they are already thinking about the next Carnaval.
“We never burn hope, it always lives,” they agree.
