Sodelva Ríos is an emblematic figure in the Mazatlán International Carnaval, known for her skill and dedication to making Carnaval Queen dresses. With years of experience and a consolidated prestige, Sodelva is the perfect choice to create the dresses for the Queens of the “La Perla” edition.
On this occasion, the prestigious costume designer will have the honor of making the dresses for the Carnaval Queen and the Queen of Floral Games, who will celebrate her centenary this year. The dresses have been designed by Andrés Romo, a talented young man born in Escuinapa, Sinaloa, who has triumphed on the catwalks of Milan, Italy.
Carnaval Queen Dress
The Carnaval Queen dress is a true work of art. The bodice of the dress features elements that reflect the Carnaval theme with draping and a full skirt adorned with hand-embroidered details. The dress also features a train and crown that complement its design. The sparkle of the dress is another of its standout details, making it perfect for the Carnaval Queen.
Floral Games Queen Dress
The dress of the Floral Games Queen is equally stunning. The bodice of the dress is full of circle details, all hand-embroidered, and the skirt is full and features a base, corselet, and overskirt. The dress also features a train and crown that complement its design. The dress is a celebration of the 100 years of the Floral Games and is a tribute to the rich cultural tradition of Mazatlan.
The magic of sequins
For Sodelva Ríos, sequins are a fundamental element in the creation of carnival dresses.
“What shines the most is the sequin, Carnaval is sequins, it’s what gives it life,” she says.
The prestigious costume designer knows that sequins are what make Carnaval dresses true works of art, and it’s what gives them that shine and glow that makes them unique.
Sodelva Ríos tells us about her creation process and the importance of the details in each dress. “The dresses have their train, crown, scepter and necklace. There is one with sleeves and another with bell-shaped sleeves. Everything that is worked on for both Carnaval and the Floral Games has a special detail,” she explains.
Participation in the video clip “Soy de Mazatlán”
Sodelva Ríos also had the opportunity to participate in the video clip “Soy de Mazatlán”, together with Banda MS and was excited to be part of this project. In the video clip, she appears with an elegant outfit and a crown that makes her look like a true queen.
Finally, Sodelva Ríos invites us to enjoy Mazatlán International Carnaval 2025 “La Perla” that will be held from February 27th to March 4th.
“Come and enjoy Carnaval Mazatlán! We know it’s going to be a very beautiful Carnaval,” she concludes.
