On the eve of Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán 2024 “Eclipse Barroco”, this Friday, February 2nd and Saturday, February 3rd, culture and the arts will be celebrating with the presentation of “Isla Negra”, winning book of the Mazatlán Prize for Literature, and with the traditional Evening of the Arts, an event where writer Elsa Cross will be awarded and in her honor the “Stradivarius Barock Symphonique” concert will be offered with the performance of the star artist Alexandre Da Costa.

The event dedicated to literature will take place on February 2 at Casa Haas, at 7:00 p.m. where the members of the jury will give the reasons that justify the awarding of the winning work in 2024.

Admission to the presentation of “Isla Negra” will be free and there will be copies for sale inside.

The Mazatlán Literature Prize was established at the end of 1964 by the Governor of the State, Mr. Leopoldo Sánchez Celis, at the initiative of Mr. Francisco Rodolfo Álvarez, Raúl Rico Mendiola and Antonio Haas to annually award the person who had produced, in the domains of Mexican Literature, the most outstanding work in the previous year and which would be delivered within the Mazatlán Carnaval festivities.

Since 1996, the Evening of the Arts has been held within the Carnaval festivities and during this ceremony the Mazatlán Literature Prize is awarded. It is from this date that the Autonomous University of Sinaloa integrates its support for the award.

Evening of the Arts

Alexandre Da Costa, conductor and soloist who plays a Stradivarius di Barbaro violin from 1701 using a Sartory bow, will be the star performer during the Evening of the Arts, the ceremony for the delivery of the Mazatlán Prize for Literature 2024, an award that enhances the program cultural event of Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán “Eclipse Barroco”.

Da Costa, current Director of the Quebec Philharmonic Orchestra, will conduct musicians from the Camerata Mazatlán during the “Stradivarius Barock Symphonique” concert.

Alexandre Da Costa is characterized by the production of electrifying, virtuoso music loaded with brilliant expressiveness, singing, and passion for life.

The price of tickets is $550, $650, $700 and $800 pesos available at the ticket offices of the Ángela Peralta Theater, Cultura Mazatlán, Plazuela República and Gran Plaza Mazatlán.
