In 1975, at the age of 6, Paulina Carrillo Collard was crowned Children’s Queen of Carnaval Mazatlán. Her grandfather Guillermo Collard, a very party-loving man, loved to celebrate life and had the idea of registering her as a candidate for Carnaval queen.
Once registered, they discovered that they had to work hard. Her parents raffled off a trip to Las Vegas and a trip to Disneyland for two people with all expenses paid. That was their strategy to raise funds.
Paulina Carrillo Collard remembers that the Election of the Children’s Queen was at the Municipal Palace, her coronation took place at the Diana Cinema, in the Center of Mazatlán and she was crowned by Leticia de Tirado as Children’s Queen of the Carnaval Mazatlán 1975, her dress was made by Delia León, it was yellow with flower petals that moved. In all events she was always accompanied by her family.
The Children’s Queen of 1975 highlights that Mazatlecans always celebrate life, and laughing even at the mistakes made, distinguishes them from others.
While drinking tea, with agile words and fluid conversation, Paulina Carrillo told her chapter of life in the history of Carnaval, now she is a woman dedicated to educational issues, but her love for the maximum fiesta of the port remains intact.
The Golden Queen of the Children’s Carnaval expresses that she had no idea of the impact of the fiesta she was participating in, and it was not until she was 20 years old when she was fortunate enough to chauffeur Don Mills (RIP), President of Seattle Mazatlán Sister Cities, at a Carnaval, and until then she realized the magnitude and impact of Carnaval on the economy, on family ties and on promoting Mazatlán in the world.
The honored Children’s Queen highlights the great respect and affection for so many people who are not seen and make Carnaval possible, because she believes that sometimes we take our eyes off what truly matters, we greet the Queen and forget everything that happened for her to be there.
Very happy and honored on the eve of her tribute, on Monday, March 3rd at the Teodoro Mariscal stadium during the Coronation of Ángela I, Children’s Queen of the Mazatlán International Carnaval 2025, Paulina Carrillo Collard feels very excited about the distinction that she accepted full of joy, because celebrating is a way of giving thanks.
