In Mazatlán during the FCCA convention, Mazatlan artists showed their greatness and dazzled the executives who make decisions at the highest level about the marine routes that shipping tourism follows to reach ports located on the coasts of Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America.
The first surprise for members of the Florida and Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) was during a cocktail offered on the terrace of the Buks Tower), the setting for the musical performance of the Mazatlecan violist Israel Torres whose virtuosity has international recognition, and three musicians who accompany him in the Los Arcadia project.
With two violins, a cello and percussions, the musicians gave the conventioneers an eclectic repertoire selected exclusively to connect with people of different generations, from oldies music by The Bleatles to the most contemporary such as Billy Elliot, Capital Cities, Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
The concert was held at the top of the tower, fifteen floors above sea level and had as its setting the beautiful view of the coastal promenade on a night of warm weather and illuminated sky with the fireworks launched during the evening to give the Welcome to FCCA conventioneers.
The next day, November 8th, during the inauguration of the FCCA convention headed by the Governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya; the President of Mazatlán, Edgar González, executives, governors of ports that make up the Caribbean route and tourism entrepreneurs, the artists of the Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán delighted the special guests with native dances and folk dances to the rhythm of the sinaloense band.
After the third call, the attendees were fascinated with the rhythm of the music, the sound and movements of the Danza del Venado, a performance by Erick Carillo, who motivated those present to video record this pre-Hispanic dance with their cell phones.
After the applause, the Sinaloan drum played and to the rhythm of “Pato Asado” and “El Sinaloense”, the Ballet Folklorico de Cultura directed by maestro Javier Arcadia, infected those present with their joy.
S. G. M. Alejandra Tirado, Queen of Carnaval Mazatlán 2023; Víctor Quiroz, King of the Carnaval; and S. G. M. Uma Ramírez, Queen of the Floral Games, paraded across the stage in their royal attire, projecting the joy, color and tradition of the port’s greatest festival.
The emblematic characters of the next edition of the Carnaval Internacional de Mazatlán framed the Carnaval fiesta, which with the motto: Baroque Eclipse, will take place from February 8th to 13th, 2024.
On Wednesday night CULTURA Mazatlán offered an Callejoneada inspired by the Day of the Dead celebration. It was a true walking fiesta with the enthusiastic participation of stilt walkers, women and men juggling rings of fire and troupes that, through dance, raised the festive spirit of the Mazatlecos.
Mythical catrinas joined the tour where the matriarch called “Luz de las Almas”, creation of Luis Antonio Ríos, shone with her own light.
The statuesque catrina attracted attention due to its height, which is around 4 meters. As it passed, the FCCA executives were able to videotape it and captured in their photographs the beauty of this experimental work that in its costume looks like a kind of altarpiece of death, full of light, brightness and color, with skulls, stars and bread of the dead on their shields.
The Callejoneada was led by the Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Estrella Palacios Domínguez and Michelle Paige, CEO of the FCCA, who began the tour in aa pulmonia and halfway there they got off to walk and dance their way through the streets of Centro Historico until they reached Plaza Machado where a reception was offered to the guests.
