The Instituto Municipal de Cultura, Turismo y Arte de Mazatlán invites artists based in Sinaloa, Nayarit, Durango, Sonora and Baja California to participate in the XXIII edition of the Antonio López Sáenz Award.
The Fine Arts Biennial will reward the winners with an attractive economic prize of 160 thousand pesos distributed among the first three places.
Each artist may submit two pieces for the jury’s consideration, according to the following formats:
Two-dimensional: Individual format of a maximum of 150 centimeters on each of its sides, be it painting, graphics, photography and video.
Three-dimensional: Sculpture, installation or object, must have a limit of 100 centimeters x 100 centimeters, and the weight must not exceed 50 kilograms.
They must be unpublished pieces that have not participated in other contests or exhibitions held between January and December 2023, the theme and technique are free.
Participants must register and upload the required documentation to the email address lopezsaenzbienal@culturamazatlan.com. The registration period begins on September 1st, 2023 and ends on Friday, January 5th, 2024.
Each participant must provide their contact information when registering, such as: Name of the artist or collective, address, telephone, email, individual and collective exhibitions, prizes (if any), as well as a technical file of each of the pieces that participate with the name of the artist, title of the work, materials used, theoretical basis (10 lines maximum), dimensions in centimeters of the work in the order of height, length and weight, as well as the cost of the work.
In the case of digital work, it will be in JPG format, size 1024 x 768 pixels. The title of the file must correspond to the title of the work. Three-dimensional pieces must include a minimum of 5 images (front, back, right, left and top), or additional ones that allow the identification of other angles of the pieces. It will be acknowledged by email.
To define the winners, the Instituto de Cultura will designate a jury, which will be made up of personalities with a recognized career in the arts, who will make a pre-selection for the exhibition.
The decision of the qualifying jury will be final and will be announced publicly on Monday, January 29th, 2024, while the exhibition will open on January 31th.
First place will win 70,000 pesos, second place 50,000, while third place will get 40,000 pesos.
